Not Just Another Marketplace…
How @mpkoz used Manifold's marketplace widget to sell 362 ETH of NFT's on his own Wix site
Manifold Gallery is not your typical marketplace. We’d actually argue that it’s not meant to be a marketplace at all - or at least, not the best marketplace for your work, whether that’s your own collection or the curated work of others. The best marketplace in terms of display and experience? That’s up to you!
The front page of gallery.manifold.xyz gives a random feed of all listings created with the Gallery app. Pieces listed with Manifold are displayed in a beautiful, no-frills grid we’ve designed to put a focus on the art, as with the token detail pages behind each piece. Ultimately these pages represent a listing on the Manifold ecosystem comprised of on-chain data including metadata, listing configurations and bid history - core marketplace information ready for however you want to use it.
We’ve developed a library of front-end widgets to display this information and used them in building the single-page auction sites output by the Gallery app, the simplest form of a marketplace. We think it only makes sense to to make these very same widgets available to any developer to build on top of. So we’ve templatized both full versions and individual components of Gallery auction pages into easily-embeddable widgets similar to our Connect and Campaign Widgets.
These exportable widgets can reference listings created through the Gallery app or those listed manually with the Manifold marketplace contract and can be built into projects as simple as a Squarespace site and as complex as built-from-scratch web3 projects.
That’s a Wix Site?
Sometimes using an online website builder like Wix or Squarespace just makes sense. It’s a simple solution that takes care of the basic elements of hosting a website and can be extremely approachable for those with less technical expertise. It can also be extremely capable for those who know their way around some code.
Digital media artist and software developer Michael Kozlowski (@mpkoz) used Manifold’s Marketplace Widgets to create a fully customized site featuring his 90-piece set of visually stunning generative artworks titled Tectonics.
Using our tools he was able to embed each listing in a number of form factors, including interactive catalog card widgets on the front page, and full layout widgets behind each listing. Starting with a simple connect wallet button via our Connect Widget he was able to quickly start pulling in listing data to build out the vision in his head - all within the confines of the Wix website builder.
What’s most impressive about Michael’s site is the effort and time spent on styling these widgets with custom CSS, proving that each can be customized to the desired look and feel for any project. He implemented interesting features including color-coded bid buttons matched to auction status and even included his own data fallback provider to ensure an optimal experience for mobile and unconnected visitors.
The result? A visually stunning custom drop-site and a wildly successful collection sell-out of 90 simultaneous auctions. A project truly representing what we look to empower at Manifold.
Spin Up a Marketplace Fast
Manifold’s Marketplace Widgets let you build marketplace experiences fast. Whether it’s a gallery-type site featuring multiple pieces of art, or a unique drop page focusing on your latest 1/1 you now have the tools to represent your work or curations solely as you intend.
That’s what whitelights.eth (@iamwhitelights) did for his latest piece titled “a quantum entanglement”. Using time as a unique on-chain input to the experiential nature of the piece(s), he desired a custom site to display and auction his work best suited for its dynamic nature. He dove into the widget documentation head first looking for what would make sense to achieve what he’d mocked up and got started with a simple Vue project. After embedding the widgets he got to work styling with custom CSS to achieve his trademark whitelights.eth aesthetic.
Widgets used:
m-connect
m-listing-bid
m-listing-description
m-listing-attributes
m-listing-links
m-layout-bid-overlay
The result? A bespoke website beautifully designed and executed specifically for a single piece. And an all time high sale for the artist to boot. The “LFG” moment we exclusively build artist and developer tools for!
Not Just for the Technical
Integrating Manifold listings isn’t just for the technically-savvy either. Just take @aWAYGAllery’s latest wordpress-based gallery of awesome mints and editions, away.gallery. Eloquently built by simply integrating @manifoldxyz claim-page links behind photos and buttons to showcased projects, it proves anyone can make use of the Manifold ecosystem to share anyone’s work in beautiful and unique ways.
